Computer Literacy Class 1300 Survey

1. What have you learned in this semester?
I cannot tell you how important this class has been to me. It has given me confidence I never had before. For the first time, I have felt able to communicate with my employees who actually do the work in WORD and in our data base. I have learned terminology so that I can feel comfortable discussing hardware and software. I have a rudimentary understanding of an Operating System and stand-alone Utility Programs. I have worked all the software programs, WORD, EXCEL, ACCESS, and POWER POINT. I always will keep the texts to refer to as needed.

2. What subject or topic did you enjoy the most?
I enjoyed most the topics that covered hardware because I knew the least about such things as motherboard, CPU, RAM, Hard Drive, etc. I also appreciated the lab work and learning how to use the programs. My favorite topic, just because I find it interesting, had to do with the various utility programs that protect our computers from hackers, spyware, backdoor entries, etc. And I thought the short presentation on computer forensics was fascinating. But from a practical standpoint I benefited most , I believe, from the terminology relating to hardware.

3. What is your major? And how would you apply what you’ve learned in your career?
My major is liberal arts. I use the computer at work primarily for email communications and internet research but for the first time this year, thanks to this course, I was able to submit my budget in EXCEL. I also do a lot of WORD editing. In everything we do we are dependent on the computer. I wish everyone could take this course as a refresher as needed since technology is constantly changing.

I also learned about new technology gadgets thanks to the articles we discussed in class. Over all I learned a plentiful amount of information that I didn’t know before.

2. What subject or topic did you enjoy the most?
The subject I enjoyed the most was when we talked about the computer hardware and software. I enjoyed it because I didn’t know anything before and now I know a little bit of what computers have inside.

3. What is your major? And how would you apply what you’ve learned in your career?
My major is nursing and I will use what I have learned while working because in nursing it is important to know about the different programs available and how to use the computer. Especially now with technology improving day by day every job revolves around some type of computer knowledge. I am glad I took this class and maybe I’ll have to take another one because in nursing you have to take a test over basic computer knowledge.

1. What have you learned in this semester?
A lot. First of all, I feel more comfortable with moving around the computer in different software programs. I learned how to use the computer more efficiently and completely: programs available, search engines, cleaning, back-up. The lab work was helpful to learn all that is available on the Microsoft Office 2007. The computer/technology world is improving quickly, so the current event discussions were interesting. I will be purchasing a new computer soon, so the understanding of the computer and what is important and needed in a computer was very helpful to me.

2. What subject or topic did you enjoy the most?
I enjoyed putting together a PowerPoint presentation and how to set up Excel formulas. As I stated above, “The Ideal Computer” project will help me the most when purchasing my new computer soon.

3. What is your major? And how would you apply what you’ve learned in your career?
I am in the Radiology Tech Program here at El Centro College. I will be using a computer to read and report findings. Even though I will be using lots of new and different software programs than we worked on in class, this class made me feel more comfortable with using a computer.

I am actually pretty computer literate already. I just needed this class for a required credit. So most of the curriculum was not new to me, but I did learn how to do some thing in excel that I didn’t know how to do before. The topic I enjoyed the most was probably creating our ideal computer, it was fun to build a really expensive computer, with anything on it that you want.

3. What is your major? And how would you apply what you’ve learned in your career?

I am an education major, I will be certified to teach k-6 when I graduate. Creating documents and spreadsheets will probably be useful personally, and PowerPoint is something I may end up using in the classroom.

1. What have you learned in this semester?
I have learned how to better understand and use not just a personal computer, but applications and software for computers period. I learned Access, PowerPoint, how to apply grafts and charts and make my papers and projects look a certain way. This class teaches you how to maximize the potential of your computer and it teaches you why your or any computer works the way it does. You learn what makes a computer and how it came to be. And you learn all the different ways technology invades and affects our society and lives.

2. What subject or topic did you enjoy the most?
I really enjoyed the weekly technology reports. Each class period we were asked to bring in an article from the newspaper or online or magazine, etc. We spoke about our article and the class offered comments. Each article was about something that was being done or improved with today’s technology and the topics ran the gamut from new phones and computers to smart homes and computer operated vehicles. There seemed to be nothing that was not affected by computers. From the hospital to the grocery store.

3. What is your major? And how would you apply what you’ve learned in your career?
My major is science with a specialty in medicine and the ways that the computer and the knowledge I’ve acquired will be used is vast. Computers are used in every and I mean every aspect of the medical field. The Anesthesiologist uses the computer to mete out the correct dosage of medication. Patient records, along with prognosis and diagnosis are secured by the computer and the list goes on. There is no way you can get away from technology, it is deeply embedded (no pun intended) into our world in such a way that our world couldn’t survive without it. It will be the return to the dark ages.

Computer Literacy Class 1300 Survey

1. What have you learned in this semester?
I now have a better grasp of Word and Excel than I did before starting this course and I have a new understanding of Access and PowerPoint, neither of which I have previously used.

2. What subject or topic did you enjoy the most?
All of the topics discussed are interrelated. All of the topics discussed are essential to a modern professional work experience regardless of the field in which one chooses to work.

3. What is your major? And how would you apply what you’ve learned in your career?
Paralegal Studies. Everything discussed in this course relates to work done in the legal field. Legal work completely depends on computers, from drafting documents such as wills and pleadings to doing research. One must not only be literate with each program discussed in the course, but one must be able to have an understanding of matters such as how to select a computer, how computers connect to other computers and networks, and what current issues affect computers and their applications. Computers continue to permeate every part of daily life and one will certainly be left behind if one fails to keep pace.

1. What have you learned in this semester?
This class was very in lighting for me. Even though I have grown up using computer I never knew exactly how they work or even how to get the most out of them when surfing the web or typing up a project. In this class I have learned how to navigate through the computer, how the computer works and the hardware involved in building one. How to proficiently use word, access, excel, and power point. We learned about breaking news and innovations for computer science and technology at the beginning of every class. We also learned the time line of technology from the first computer to present day inventions.

2. What subject or topic did you enjoy the most?
My very most favorite topic is the guts of the computer and how it works. Believe it or not I think that I am very capable of building my own commuter after taking this class.

3. What is your major? And how would you apply what you’ve learned in your career?
My major is Mechanical Engineering. No matter what field you are going into these days, computers are part of the job. The ability of knowing and using computers is the only way to get ahead in life of now and the future. Without this class I would have never opened the door to computers and their capabilities.
